The road to Butheeb

Qualify, nominate, confirm

A World Championship is entered by nations, not by individuals. Every horse and rider first qualifies at FEI events inside the window the FEI has set for Butheeb, 29 September 2024 to 29 September 2026, under the FEI Endurance Rules. Their National Federation then enters them: nominated entries by 14 October 2026, definite entries by 17 November 2026.

Each nation may enter five riders, of whom the best three count for the team classification; a nation with fewer than three riders is not ranked as a team. Nations compete for the team title and riders for the individual title in the same 160 km ride, and the horse judged in the best condition after the finish receives an award of its own. The FEI Endurance Rules, 2026 edition, govern who may start, how the ride is run and how the results are decided.

The last World Championship at Butheeb, ridden in February 2023, brought 118 athletes from 36 nations to Al Khatim.

For National Federations

Entries are made through the FEI Entry System by the National Federation. Team logistics, accreditation and stabling requests go through the NF team portal and the Organising Committee.
