Ride time, recovery and the gate

An endurance result is more than a finishing time. For every loop the record shows the ride time from the out-line to the arrival line, the recovery time from arrival until the horse is presented to the vets, and the outcome at the gate. The clock does not stop until the horse is presented, so a quick recovery counts as much as a fast loop.

Under the 2026 FEI Endurance Rules the average speed shown for a combination is the average over all the loops it completed, including a loop after which it failed to qualify. Loops not completed are not counted.

A horse that does not pass an inspection is out of the competition, and the reason is recorded: gait, metabolic, or another category the Veterinary Commission specifies. The winner is the first horse across the line that passes the final inspection.
